IT was all smiles this week for a Blantyre couple as they celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
David and Martha Moore, who live in Millands Avenue, marked the occasion with a meal with friends and their extended family in the Columba Club, Blantyre, to mark their 60 years together.
The couple married in February 1949 at Miss Cranston’s Tea Rooms in Glasgow.
David, now 85, worked in the bakery trade after a spell in the Navy during World War Two, and Martha (83) worked in Botterills as a shop assistant.
Martha told how she and her husband met, and joked: “It is an awful long time with just one man.
“We met through my friend. Her brother was just home from the Forces and so was David, who was his pal.
“David was very keen. I was due to have my 21st birthday party, so I invited him and the relationship blossomed from there.”
David grew up in Burnbank before moving to Blantyre to be with Martha, who moved to the area from Dunfermline at a young age.
Martha added: “After the marriage, I stayed with my mother for a wee while, but then we got a wee place of our own, where we stayed for a number of years.
“We had three sons and seven lovely grandchildren, and now we have two great-grandchildren with another due in April. All of them are just perfect.
“It is great to reach 60 years married to David. I have a beautiful husband who is very loving.
“His sons have been a credit to him.”
