Goeldi, Callimico goeldii, monkeys are resident to Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia and are a species that are near threatened conservation status.
They prefer to live in well developed shrub layers with patchy canopy covers. Unlike other monkeys, the Goeldi seldom embark higher than 5 metres.
Their diet consists of wild-fruit, insects, mice, frogs and other small vertebrates. At Amazonia they have a varied diet which consists of fruit, baby food, yohgurt, marmoset pellets, eggs, meat, cheese, locusts and mealworms.
The Goeldi also have their very own language. These monkeys can make over 40 different calls to communicate with each other and some are even supersonic, meaning that us humans can’t hear them!
They live in groups of 2-8 individuals and are led by a dominant female who is the only one who gets to breed. Women are the strong dominant sex here.
The Goeldi can leap very far distances, using their tails for balance.
