POINT Barrow (25/1, Ladbrokes) can spring a surprise in the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree on Saturday (4.15).

The 10-year-old was unlucky when falling at the first fence in last year’s race after being sent off as 8/1 co-favourite.

The former Irish National winner stays and normally jumps well and has been targeted at this race all season.

He has won on all types of ground, including good, when successful at Fairyhouse two years ago.

Point Barrow can emulate Silver Birch and win the race the year after falling in it.

If returning to his best form, Butlers Cabin (18/1, Sporting Odds), is the each-way alternative.

David Pipe’s charge Joacci (80/1, Coral) is the best of the outsiders.
