Darjay School of Tae Kwon-Do has enjoyed a successful year,
A TAE KWON-DO club run by two Larkhall champions has enjoyed a highly successful year so far.
Darjay School of Tae Kwon-Do in Hamilton, run by 3rd Dan Daryn Duncan and 2nd Dan Jayson Duncan, have won medals in several competitions.
Daryn won two gold medals at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff, taking the black belt middleweight division as an individual and then helping his team-mates win gold again in the team event.
Clubmates Gillian Barclay and Ross Campbell also took part in the Welsh event.
Daryn then fought in the British Tae Kwon-Do Council (BTC) International at London’s O2 Arena as part of a Scottish team, winning third place, and also receiving the London International Open medal.
The club, based in Hillhouse Community Centre, have gone through two gradings since Daryn and Jayson took over in January, with 12 students sitting their grade awards.
Two students with the highest marks have been Chloe Cummings-Saund in the junior section, and Cheryl Stead in the adult division, both of whom won the club award and were presented with a trophy.
Daryn said: “I’ve been very pleased with how the club has been doing, while I’m personally doing well this year too.
“The club has been getting stronger and stronger and that’s great because a lot of hard work gets put into it.
“It takes a couple of months to get up to standards, but since then we’ve had some really good results.”
Daryn left on Wednesday for the US Open, which takes place from July 22-24.
The Darjay School of Tae Kwon-Do train on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6.30-7.30pm (juniors) and 7.30-8.30pm (adults).
Places are available to new students, who will receive their first lesson free of charge.
