A HAMILTON teenager has picked up a prestigious award for excelling in country sport.
Trainee gamekeeper Scott McCall, of Silvertonhill, was the winner of this year’s coveted Tam Tod trophy.
The Tam Tod trophy award is made each year to the most improved and committed young country sports person in Scotland.
The award is in memory of Tam Tod, a lifelong gamekeeper and countryman who died suddenly in 2008.
The 17-year-old former Hamilton Grammar pupil was presented with the award at the Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace.
Scott clinched the title after being chosen from a selection of trainee gamekeepers and countryside managers who were nominated by their colleges.
Scott was nominated by Elmwood College, Cupar, Fife.
Proud mum Jan said: “Scott has followed his dream to become a gamekeeper and has excelled due to his passion for it.”
Scott has always loved the outdoors and is a keen fisherman. He is a member of Sandford Angling Club.
His other hobbies are ice hockey and rugby. He played for Uddingston Rugby Club for 12 years before going to college.
Scott is hoping to work soon on an estate in the Highlands.
The Scottish Countryside Alliance Education Trust administer the Tam Tod Fund on behalf of friends and family of Tam Tod.
