LANARK Amateur Swimming Club member Jack McComish splashed out by winning NINE MEDALS at the Great Britain Disability Sports Events (DSE) Championships last weekend.
European bronze medallist Jack, who travelled with the Scottish DSE Swim Team to Ponds Forge in Sheffield, took eight individual gold medals and a relay gold.
Swimmer Jack, who is deaf, won all his events in style, recording personal best times and smashing eight British records along the way.
Five British Open and Scottish and British 15 and under records went tumbling in the 50m breaststroke (32.15), 100m breaststroke (1.09.43), 100m freestyle (54.82), 200m individual medley (2.16.60) and 400 freestyle (4.16.09).
Jack broke a further three British 15 and under Scottish records in the 50m butterfly (28.23), 100m butterfly (1.02.36) and 50m freestyle (25.74).
Scotland DSE team manager and Scottish Swimming development officer Paul Wilson said: “I was totally gobsmacked by Jack’s performance and can’t praise him highly enough on his swimming and fighting spirit.”
Coach Karen Kelly said: “Jack obviously rose to the occasion, had an excellent weekend, and all the training he puts in is paying dividends.
“This performance and training is setting Jack up nicely for the World Deaf Championships in Portugal next August, where he will be representing the Great Britain Deaf team.”
