Uddingston Ladies’ Hockey Club crash out of the West District Plate semi-finals against a strong Cumbernauld team.

UDDINGSTON Ladies Hockey Club slumped to another costly defeat last weekend as they crashed out of the West District Plate, losing 6-1 to Cumbernauld in a semi-final match.

The Villagers started well and shocked the home team with their fast, short, passing game, keeping Cumbernauld – top of the division above Uddingston – at bay for spells.

But just before the interval Cumbernauld hit Uddingston with three sharp counter-attacks to take a 3-0 half-time lead.

Uddingston’s Emma Bayne scored an excellent goal at the start of the second half, taking the ball into the ‘D’ and shooting high into the left corner.

However, Cumbernauld quickly regained the upper hand and fired in another three goals.

Although it looks on paper to have been a comprehensive win for Cumbenauld, Uddingston can be proud of their performance against superior opposition.
