Badminton starlet Kirsty Gilmour won the Best Up and Coming Sportsperson at the Scottish Variety Awards last week.

KIRSTY GILMOUR picked up her latest top honour last week when she was named Best Up-and-Coming Sportsperson at the Scottish Variety Awards in Glasgow.

The 16-year-old badminton star from Bothwell was delighted to scoop the gong at a glittering awards ceremony in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday.

And Kirsty got a taste of the big-time earlier that day when she appeared on GMTV to publicise the awards.

“She was on GMTV on Friday as the only sports person in her category, so I twigged that she might just win it but Kirsty didn’t and was delighted she did,’ said her dad, Brian.

“It’s a great achievement and she might have to get used to this sort of thing, but it’s only happening because she works so hard.”
