NORTH Lanarkshire Volleyball Club’s teams had mixed fortunes at the weekend.
NLVC ladies hosted Glasgow Mets in what was billed as a relegation play-off decider.
Both teams made a nervy, error-strewn start but with the score on 14-14, NLVC applied pressure with some excellent serving from Kay Morrison and impressive defensive work, and took the set 24-17.
North then relaxed and started to play their own game, taking the second set 25-16 thanks in part to some powerful play by Gillian Sharp.
North stepped up a gear to take the set 25-9 and the match 3-0 to step closer to First Division safety.
Bellshill Cardinals had two tough fixtures in three days, meeting league-leaders Kilmarnock II on Thursday, and Glasgow Mets on Saturday.
After Thursday’s 3-2 defeat by the Ayrshire side, Bellshil were locked into another close match-up, taking the first set 25-22, only to allow the Mets to level with 25-20 in the second.
Mets took the third set 25-13, before Shaun Stirrat inspired a 25-20 win in the fourth.
However, Mets took the tiebreaker 15-11 to clinch the win.
