Four sailors chosen for International Children’s Games in Bahrain.
FOUR athletes are heading to the International Children’s Games in Bahrain in June after coming through a sailing qualifier at Strathclyde Park earlier this month.
From a field of 25 competitors, Alistair Logan from Hamilton College and Emma Brown, of Wishaw’s Clyde Valley High, will progress to the Games squad, while Chloe Fagan from Sacred Heart Primary in Cumbernauld and Holy Cross pupil Scott Johnston will travel in reserve for the tournament, taking place in Manama from June 28 to July 3.
Robert Mutlow, SailLaser centre manager at Strathclyde Park, was delighted with the response and hopes it encourages others to take up the sport.
He said: “There’s a lot of training ahead for those kids selected but we are delighted they have got there.
“There is a school training programme at SailLaser and a large number of those taking part have come through here.
“There wasn’t a lot of wind on the day, but we could see there is some talent. It’s about taking that and developing a squad, both for the Bahrain Children’s Games and when they’re here in Lanarkshire next year.”
