BOTH North Lanarkshire Volleyball Club teams tasted success at the weekend.
Bellshill Cardinals beat Pentland NUVOC 4-1 in Edinburgh, while the North Lanarkshire Ladies visited South Ayrshire and returned home with a 3-2 scoreline.
Bellshill’s win was made more impressive given that Cardinals had only the regulation six players, with a setter having to double up as a main hitter.
NUVOC took the opening set 25-19, but Bellshill came storming back to take the next two 25-23 and 26-24.
This effectively ended the game as a contest and Cardinals won the next two sets 25-19 and 15-9.
North Lanarkshire’s clash proved to be a much tighter affair and no love was lost on Valentine’s Day.
The first set saw North playing some good volleyball, with eight serves from Kay Morrison helped them to a 25-18 score.
Ayrshire took the second set but Lanarkshire restored their lead.
The fourth set was a ding-dong battle but South Ayrshire held out to force the match into a deciding fifth set but North’s experience came through against their much younger opponents.
