BADMINTON starlet Kirsty Gilmour has been nominated for a Scottish Variety Award.
The Bothwell 16-year-old has been nominated for the Best Up-and-Coming Scottish Sportsperson, but is up against rugby’s Ben Addison, cycling’s John Paul and footballers Rory Loy (Rangers) and Paul Caddis (Celtic).
Badminton fans will need no reminding that Kirsty has made a glittering start to the 2009-10 season, winning the prestigious Langenfield Trophy and the UK Youth Games singles titles, as well as retaining the Bank of Scotland Under-19 title.
And this weekend she will tackle the Yonex Scottish National Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth.
The awards ceremony will take place on March 26 at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The Scottish Variety Awards are in association with Radio Clyde and The Scottish Sun newspaper, and voting is now underway via their websites.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Cash for Kids project.
