Last call for Hamilton Sports Performers of the Year Awards nominees.

HAMILTON Sports Council are still seeking nominations for their 2009 Sports Performer of the Year Awards, but the deadline is fast approaching.

People have only until Tuesday, February 2, to vote for their sporting heroes and although nominations have flooded in, some categories are more popular than others.

Hamilton Sports Council secretary Clare Winsch said: “There are a couple of categories for which we would prefer more nominations to make the judging more competitive.

“We are sure that there have been other worthy performances by local sportsmen and sportswomen, both adult and junior, and by teams, clubs, coaches and sports organisers, so we are still accepting nominations until next Tuesday.

“That gives us time to process the information and begin the judging process by the second week in February.”

Filming of many performers has already begun, and short videos of the top three nominees in each category will be shown at the awards dinner.

This will take place at Larkhall Leisure Centre on Wednesday, March 31.

Categories for nomination are male and female senior, male and female junior, junior and senior teams, coach of the year, and club of the year.

If appropriate nominations are received, special awards will also be given for Lifetime Achievement Award and Services to Sport Award.

Nomination forms are available on-line at: www.hamiltonsportscouncil.com or by phoning Marion Wotherspoon on 01698 476108.
