Hamilton Sports Council nominations are being sought.

IT’S that time of the year when Hamilton Sports Council seek nominations for their 2009 Sports Awards.

And this year they’ve urged people to nominate worthy sports performers rather than complain afterwards that they weren’t recognised.

Nominations are being sought from club officials, supporters, parents and members of the public.

Nominations will be welcomed for senior male and female and junior male and female.

Awards are also available for senior and junior team, coach of the year and club of the year.

This year two special awards will also be given for Lifetime Achievement and Services to Sport.

If you know of any outstanding sporting achievements by a Hamilton District sportsperson, nomination forms can be applied for now.

Chairman of Hamilton Sports Council, Councillor Graeme Horne, said: “Often after the awards ceremony people tell us that they were disappointed that their colleague, team-mate, son or daughter deserved to be nominated but wasn’t.

“All we can say is that if you know someone worthy of nomination do it yourself.

“We’d much rather have multiple nomination forms for an individual than none.”

The Sports Performer of the Year Award dinner may be three months away but once the short-list of finalists in each category is drawn up each has to be filmed and a brief biography collated.

Only then can the final judging take place.

Nomination forms are available on-line from the Hamilton Sports Council website at: www.hamiltonsportscouncil.com or by calling Marion Wotherspoon at South Lanarkshire Leisure on 01698 476131.
