NORTH Lanarkshire Volleyball Clubs two teams had mixed fortunes at the weekend
Bellshill Cardinals ended a run of three defeats by beating Glasgow Mets 4-1 in a league game, despite losing Ross Allan to a serious injury in midweek training.
It was obvious that this was the first game back after Christmas as the match, although keenly-contested, lacked quality.
But Cardinals eventually overcame their struggling visitors with several good performances, including man of the match Neil Cameron.
Bellshills next match is against Dundee, where a win would put them back in the hunt for a playoff place.
NLVC ladies, however, lost 3-0 to their Glasgow Mets counterparts.
Gemma Mackie made a good debut and the ladies controlled the first set, with Gemma and Alice Stewart getting runs of serves to take the team ahead at crucial times.
However at 19-19 they lost concentration and eventually lost 25-20.
Mets controlled the second and third sets, and although NLVC defended admirably, they lost both 25-17.
This Saturday the ladies host Lenzie in what is a crunch game.
Play starts at 10.30am in Brannock High, Newarthill, and entry is free. All are welcome.
