Volleyball: North Lanarkshire Volleyball Club success

BOTH teams from North Lanarkshire Volleyball Club enjoyed excellent results over the weekend.

The ladies’ team were short of numbers due to illness and injuries and only just reached the minimum of six needed to play against Glasgow Mets in the Top Teams’ Cup.

However, their 3-1 winning scoreline was far from flattering, as they turned in an excellent performance, particularly from 16-year-old Amy Forsyth.

Although Mets took a tight first set, the belief in the NLVC players was obvious, with some exceptional back-court defensive work allowing them to take the second set.

The third set was close, with NLVC winning 27-25.

But the fourth set was a masterclass in tactical serving and blocking, with NLVC winning 25-9.

The ladies now look forward to a semi-final in December.

BELLSHILL Cardinals took inspiration from that win earlier in the day and convincingly defeated Pentland NUVOC’s thirds, thus moving into the Scottish Cup fourth round.

Their whole squad was given a run-out as the Cardinals won 3-0, with excellent performances from veteran John Waters and youth player David Anderson in particular.

Both sides are away to Su Ragazzi in Wishaw on Saturday.
