Athletics: Christmas Cracker 5k Challenge is set to be a cracker

RUNNERS of all ages and abilities are being urged to take part in this year’s Christmas Cracker 5k Challenge at Strathclyde Park on Sunday, December 7.

The Co-operative jogscotland challenge starts at 11am.

It’s a fun event where participants can dress up in the Christmas theme – bells, hats, Santa suits, or whatever – and have the chance to win on-the-spot prizes.

Every finisher will receive a goody bag and medal.

The challenge, which is supported by North Lanarkshire Council, will also give people the chance to get into shape ahead of the busy festive period, and provide an early start to new year fitness plans.

Cost of participating is £6 for gold jogscotland and scottishathletics members, and £8 for all other participants.

North Lanarkshire Leisure Trust chief executive Blane Dodds said: “The Christmas Cracker Challenge is an opportunity for everyone – runners, walkers, families and people of all abilities – to exercise, have a good time, and pick up some great prizes.

“I would urge people to come along and join in the fun at this sporting, festive and family event.”

Race information will be sent out one week before the event and entries must be in by December 1.
