Bowling: West of Scotland women's competition reaches climax

THE West of Scotland Women’s Bowling Association District Finals were held at Hamilton Caledonian Bowling Club on June 30.

The singles was won by Kirkhill’s Ann McCormack, who defeated Raploch’s Susan Murray in the final.

A Blantyre team of Catherine Paterson and Evelyn Young won the two-bowl pairs, over Rutherglen’s Chris Sloan and Theresa Matthews.Rutherglen did have some success, however, as Helen Stevenson and Betty Ducket won the four-bowl pairs final, against Raploch’s Margaret Johnstone and Elizabeth Muir.

Raploch triumphed in the triples, as Susan Cole, Phyl Price and Margaret Murray took the triples against Whitefield’s Sheila Gallagher, Barbara Morris and Agnes Fitzpatrick.Blantyre’s Ann Mellon, Janet McCourt, Margaret Arbuckle and Marjory Johnston won the fours, beating Red Deer’s Maureen Cunningham, Agnes Hughes, Hetty McCulloch and Margaret Brown.
