John wins national Thai boxing title

HAMILTON teenager John Grainger was recently crowned Scottish Thai Boxing Association under-38kg champion at an event held at the University of the West of Scotland.

John (13), a pupil at Holy Cross High, took the title at a ‘Judgement Day’ event last month.

Mum Debbie (35), from Whitehill, said: “John has done very well and I’m really proud of him.

“At first I was nervous, but when I got to ringside I calmed down after I heard that you’re not allowed head-shots!

“He’s had seven fights, won four and lost three, but during his last defeat he had an abscess and was on antibiotics, so he wasn’t at his best.

“This is the first belt he’s won, but he has seven trophies.”
