Hamilton cricketers limp to victory

HAMILTON Cricket Club scraped to victory against Maress at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds on Saturday.

The Lanarkshire side limped to a 62-8 total, beating Maress’ 61-all-out total.

Irvine visitors Maress batted first on a lively wicket, and with the ball moving off the pitch in overcast conditions, Hamilton took advantage. James Lilley with 5-18 and Amir Virk with 4-34 did the most damage.

However, Hamilton started slowly and their total of 12-2 after six overs wasn’t looking good.

Indeed wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals, and seven had been lost by the time that James Lilley and Gregg Parsons arrived at the crease.

When Lilley set off for a quick single in response to a misfield, Parsons was unable to make his ground due to a quick recovery from the fielder, and the game was again evenly balanced.

With only two wickets left to take, and runs still required, Virk joined Lilley and some well struck shots ended a close contest in favour of Hamilton.
