Swimmers master the art of winning

MOTHERWELL and Wishaw Masters Swimming Club recently returned with several medals from the Scottish Masters Championships at Tollcross in Glasgow.

Lorraine Wheatley took four golds in the 40-44 age group, recording new Scottish records in the process, while Hugh Cumberford took three gold medals in the 70-74 category, breaking a record for 50m back.

Alison Freeland (45-49), Alison Brown (45-49), Grizel Robertson (55-59), Jean Sinclair (55-59), Phyllis Whyte (70-74) and Janet Stobie (75-59) also did well.

Ewen Ferguson (45-49) took five golds, Robert O’Hanlon (60-64), won two golds and John Brogan (70-74) also had two firsts. Alistair Young (35-39) and Willie Weir (55-59) also did well.

Hugh Cumberford won the Norrie Beattie Award for outstanding performance in the 50m back.

In team races Motherwell and Wishaw won four gold and four silver medals.
