Hamilton pupils enjoy badminton carnival

Pupils from Hamilton School for the Deaf at badminton carnival

HAMILTON’s School for the Deaf recently competed in the disabled badminton carnival at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

About 120 children attended from schools in Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow.

Scottish Badminton stars Ryan MacDonald and Gordon Thomson were also there to help launch the carnival.

The event at Scotstoun is one of just six that will be held across the country throughout thes year.

The event aims to bring children together who are affected by physical and learning disabilities and offer them a chance to compete in fun activities which will improve and stimulate the children’s interest in badminton.

Claire Mands, the national development officer of Scottish Disability Sport said: “This is a great opportunity for young people with a disability to develop their badminton skills in a fun environment.”
