RUGBY players are generally thought of as being tough and not easily pushed around.
Biggar Rugby Club’s Gregor Edmunds falls into that category.
When he is not helping the local side on the field, he can be found throwing 19ft tree trunks around.
For Gregor is the World Highland Games Champion, a title he is preparing to defend.
With the rugby season at an end Gregor, a member of the support staff at Biggar Rugby Club, turned his attention to the Highland Games circuit, winning the Atholl Gathering in Perthshire.
With competition on the day including Bruce Aitken, the world record holder for the hammer throw, and Neil Elliot, the Scottish shot putt champion, Gregor could not afford to be complacent in his approach to the various events which form part of the Highland Games competition.
Gregor put in a number of commendable performances, none more so than tossing the caber.
After winning the competition and accepting the sword, shield and sash (pictured below right ) Gregor said that the annual gathering at Blair Atholl was one of his favourite meetings, and revealed that his father had been involved in organising the original event about twenty years ago.
In between his college studies and preparing to defend the title of World Highland Games Champion, Gregor can currently be found assisting the players of Biggar Rugby Club with their close-season conditioning programme.
His Biggar RFC colleagues now wish Gregor well in the defence of his title and competing in events as far afield as the USA.
