Back in time at races

RACE-GOERS at Friday’s Hamilton Park race meeting were greeted by costumed re-enactors from across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

With the race meeting being called Braveheart Night, Hamilton Park asked the re-enactors to portray life as it was in the days of the real Braveheart, Lanark’s own William Wallace.

Members of the South Lanarkshire-based Medieval Clydesdale re-enactment group were on hand to give sword fighting displays and also give youngsters a chance to try sword fighting with wooden swords.

The group also used the race meeting to promote Scotland’s largest historical re-enactment event, which takes place in Lanark on August 16 and 17.

They were joined by festival organisers and re-enactors taking part.
