County Golfers urged to swing into top class tournament

COUNTY golfers are invited to enter one of Europe’s biggest amateur competitions, which allows an opportunity to play at a luxury resort in Egypt.

The prestigious Matchplay Championship pits pairs of golfers against each other in a series of rounds, before the winners progress to regional finals.

They’re ultimately playing for a place in the grand final, which is at the stunning Marriott Taba Heights beach resort in the South Sinai region of Egypt, and where they will be given a free week-long stay.

Around 2000 golfers are expected to take part, entry is just £20, and people have until June 30 to sign up.

First round matches take place in July, with the grand final played over three days between May 9-16, 2009.

John Woosey, managing director of The Golfer’s Club, which promotes the Matchplay Championship, said: “This not only offers players a tremendously exciting and competitive tournament of golf but, for just £20, the chance to play in one of the most stunning golfing locations on the planet.”

Golfers can sign up online by visiting: www.matchplaychampionship.com.
