Glasgow Tigers claim first victory

The Buildbase Glasgow Tigers finally claimed their first league win of the season in a spirited performance at Ashfield on Sunday.

Despite a losing run which had seen the team lose their last four home meetings, and despite being forced into three team changes due to injury, the makeshift Tigers pulled off an enthralling 51-42 win against the far-travelled Isle of Wight Islanders.

It was the individual performance of Scot Ross Brady that stole the show and inspired the home team to battle doggedly against a strong Islanders team.

Brady raced to a massive 16-point haul which included four heat wins, by far his best score of his season which has stuttered due to injury and mechanical problems.

Brady has recently invested £7000 in two new engines, and can't help but have been pleased with the instant result on Sunday.

Each of the Glasgow riders played their part in a solid display including Blantyre's Gary Beaton - making the step up to the first team for this meeting - who crucially followed his partner home in heat two to level the score at that stage.

Scorers for Tigers: Ross Brady 16, Carl Stonehewer 12, Robert Ksiezak 8, Trent Leverington 7, Lee Dicken 6, Gary Beaton 2

In a busy week ahead, Tigers travel seeking further league points to Birmingham (Wednesday) and Sheffield (Thursday) before returning to Ashfield  on Sunday (start time 4pm) to face league new boys Scunthorpe Scorpians.

With rumours abound that there will be some imminent team changes announced by the Tigers management team, it remains to be seen whether Sundays result,  allied to performances this midweek, have been promising enough to avoid some surgery on the team.
