Tom Scott road race attracts 300 runners to Strathclyde Park

THE 46th annual Tom Scott Memorial Road Race took place in Strathclyde Park last weekend.

The start of the race, which attracted a field of nearly 300 runners, was frantic, with competitors taking part in the 10-mile Memorial Road Race and shorter Round the Loch 6k event setting their paces.

Tsrgezeah Woldemichael of Shettleston Harriers won the race, setting a new course record of 50.20, in his first event for the club.

As well as receiving the Tom Scott Trophy, Woldemichael was handed a cheque for £100.

Second-placed Paul Arcari (50.48) of Kilbarchan AC held off the challenge of last year’s winner, David Millar (51.13) from Irvine AC to win the Millar Trophy and the West District 10-Mile Championships.

The Turnbull Rose Bowl for 1st Veteran runner was won by Andrew Little (52.40) of Shettleston Harriers for the third successive year.

The Jackie Gourlay Shield for first Veteran over 50 to cross the line went to Paul Thompson of Helensburgh AC, in a time of 58.10.

Michelle Hetherington of Helensburgh AC won both the Granville Trophy and the West District 10-Mile title for first lady home in 63.28.

Pamela McCrossan of Clydesdale Harriers just held off Leanne Logan (City of Edinburgh) to take second place.

Kilbarchan AC won the male team prize, with Kirkintilloch Olympians winning the ladies’ event.

The Round the Lock 6k race was a fiercely-contested affair, with the first five runners all within 40 seconds of each other.

The eventual winner was Steven Lawley of Law and District AAC in a new course record of 19.22.

Last year’s runner-up, Stephen Allen (Law and District), finished in 19.46, three seconds ahead of Ross Mathieson with 19.49.

Law and District, with 13 points, won the Gents’ Team event.

For the third successive year the ladies’ race was on by Claire Thompson of Bellahouston Road Runners, in a new course record time of 22.45.

Lisa Doyle (City of Glasgow) and Allison Reid took second and third.
