HAMILTON ran out 4-0 winners against struggling Kilmarnock, but the Ayrshire side made them work hard for their win.
Manager Kevin Murphy said: “I’m happy with the second-half performance and the attitude the players showed after the break.”
Following a dull first half, with just one chance created, a stern talk between manager and players resulted in a better performance in the second period.
Hamilton stepped up a gear and took the lead early in the half when Gill Inglis picked the ball up on the half-way line, powered her way to the edge of the box and sent a shot high into the net.
Accies then took control of the match and scored another two goals in quick succession.
A neat one-two between Helen Templeton and Cheryl McCulloch allowed the latter to finish neatly with a shot that sneaked under the keeper in 55 minutes.
Five minutes later a terrific long ball out of defence by Lynsey Hogg found Inglis running into the box, where she slotted home her second of the afternoon.
Hamilton wrapped up the win in 80 minutes when Toni Mason pounced on a defensive error before drilling the ball low and hard into the corner.
Manager Murphy added: “We have now scored 11 goals in our last two games without conceding, which gives us a strong foundation to build on.”
Hamilton’s next match is at home to Rangers at the John Cumming Stadium, Carluke, on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off.
HAMILTON: Fleming, Murray, Hogg, King, Quinn, Inglis, Mason, Sturroch, Bulloch, Hughes, McCulloch. Subs: Alexander, McDonald, Templeton, Houston.
Hamilton3 Glasgow Girls1Under-17 League Cup semi-final
HAMILTON overcame a player shortage to dump Glasgow Girls 3-1 and set up a final showdown with Rangers this Saturday.
Accies were up against it with only 11 players available, and they went into the game having lost their first three league fixtures of the season.
However, the game was over as a contest by half-time after McInnes grabbed a double and set up a third for McAvoy.
Glasgow pulled one back in the second halfput despite a tense finish Hamilton held onfor a well-deserved win.
Accies manager Jim Erwin said: “It’s a remarkable achievement to reach the League Cup final with the small squad we have at present and that wasn’t the first time we’ve had to fight on with 10 players, so it’s a credit to the girls’ will to win.”
Hamilton hope to retain the trophy they won in 2009 when they face Rangers at Toryglen indoor facility on Saturday, with a 1.15pm kick-off.

HAMILTON grabbed their first league win of the season in treacherous conditions at Kilmarnock.
With a howling wind at their backs the visitors applied some early pressure and this paid off when McInnes finished well to open the scoring.
McBrearty extended Hamilton’s lead with an audacious looping half-volley and McInnes grabbed her second to put Accies 3-0 up at half-time.
Hamilton made sure of all three points early in the second half when Brannon headed home from close range.
Killie scored twice to pull themselves back into the game but Brannon rounded off the scoring late on for her second of the game.
