Bellshill net five new players after public trial

A PUBLIC trial played at a secret venue which attracted almost 40 interested applicants has paid dividends for Bellshill Athletic.

As they prepare for life in the Super First Division having been relegated last term, boss Danny Drew said: “The trial was a big success as we’ve signed five players and we won’t rule out something similar for the future.

“We’ve signed 6ft 3ins target man Greg Cavanagh from Beith and ex-Brechin City forward Sean McKenna from Camelon.

“We’ve also snapped up Gary McKellar, a very good creative midfielder and full-back Ross McLetchie, both from Milngavie Wanderers.

“We’ve also signed 6ft-plus goalkeeper James Donnelly, who was very good and has shown a great attitude.”

Drew added: “We have started pre-season well; we finished a bit earlier than some and have put in a few sessions before anyone else, so the boys are looking really sharp.

“We have signed 10 players from last season but have lost quite a few.

“Lorn Gibson and Kevin Gallagher are training with Glencairn, Gary Fleming has signed for Irvine Meadow, Stuart Boyd has retired, goalkeeper Ian Wilson is training with Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and David Fry has left the club.”

Top scorer Fleming was voted Players’ Player of the Year, Wilson scooped the Supporters’ Club Player of the Year and left-back Mark McVittie the Club Player of the Year.
