Accies Ladies thump Dumfries

Hamilton Reserves 6, Dumfries 1

HAMILTON Accies were looking for a seventh unbeaten game to stay top of their league and did so in emphatic style against Dumfries.

Leading scorer Pamela Liddell opened the scoring after collecting a through-ball from Laura Smith before drilling low and hard into the bottom left corner.

With just a one-goal deficit Dumfries were still in the game and forced some corners.

Hamilton got their second after a quick throw-in from Murphy found McIntyre, who picked out Liddell and her shot flew past the Dumfries keeper.

Dumfries forced their way back into the game and pulled a goal back but a good Liddell pass sent McCauley through and she slotted past the goalkeeper to give Hamilton a 3-1 lead.

Liddell completed her hat-trick when she rounded the keeper before rolling the ball into the empty net, and added a fourth before making way for Sam McLaren.

The substitution proved to be inspired and McLaren rounded off the scoring when she collected an excellent pass from Michaela Burns before hitting the net.

Unsurprisingly Pamela Liddell was Player of the Match.

Hamilton’s next match is a Scottish Cup second round tie against Celtic Premier.

HAMILTON: Gibson, Park, Smith, McLoy, Paton, McAnulty, Hillman, Lindsay, Murphy, Liddell, McIntyre. Subs (used): Burns, Grehan, Lyttle, McLaren.

Monifeith Under-17s 0, Hamilton Under-17s 7

A YOUNG Hamilton side ran out comfortable winners at Monifeith.

Accies opened the scoring with a stunning swerving volley from O’Neill, Brannon doubled the lead from close range and Bulloch sent a rocket into the top corner following a good corner move involving MacLachlan.

MacLachlan scored the fourth with a terrific chip over the keeper, Bulloch got her second of the game with a deft volley and a good one-touch team move was finished off when Bulloch and MacIntyre set up MacLachlan for goal number six.

A MacIntyre cross then caused havoc in the Monifeith defence, prompting an own-goal.

Coach Jim Erwin said: “I was very pleased. There were some stunning goals and a clean sheet is always pleasing.”

Under-17 League Cup quarter-final: Glasgow Girls 2, Hamilton 9

HAMILTON went into this game looking to book a semi-final slot against Celtic and atone for the disappointment of crashing out of the Scottish Cup.

The deadlock was broken when Brannon sent a stunning strike past the helpless Glasgow keeper and the second arrived after McAvoy forced the keeper into a mistake.

A somewhat harsh decision reduced Glasgow to 10, and McAvoy scored with a terrific header to race into a 3-0 interval lead.

McAvoy notched her hat-trick with a brave headed goal before grabbing her fourth with a neat left-foot effort.

MacLauchlan’s hard work paid off when she reached what looked like a lost cause and raced through to net.

McAvoy wasn’t finished and grabbed her fifth goal before a superb solo run saw MacLachlan create space before unleashing an unstoppable 30-yard strike into the net.

MacIntyre then sent O’Neill through to grab the ninth.

Hamilton took their foot off the gas thereafter and a needless penalty and free-kick saw Glasgow pull two goals back.

Manager Jim Erwin said: “The scoreline does not always tell the full story and credit must go to our back four and keeper, who worked well early on to keep it tight and allow us to establish a cushion and build upon it.

“We needed a response after going out of the Scottish and we got it. We made some changes, which had a positive effect, and I feel the players are understanding their roles and their game awareness much better.”

HAMILTON: McCartney, MacPherson, Gilchrist, Black, Reynolds, Bulloch, O’Neill, McAvoy, Neil, Brannon, MacLachlan. Subs: McGuire, Hynde, MacIntyre, Toner, Burns, Goodwin, Mooney.

Prestwick Under-13 1, Hamilton Under-13 2

HAMILTON Under-13 Reds were away to Prestwick in what was their first game of the new season.

The first half started with all the pressure coming from Prestwick, and they opened the scoring after 10 minutes.

Accies kept their composure and fought hard in midfield, with Claire Campbell intercepting nearly every ball.

Hamilton created chances and won a free-kick just before the interval, which Nicole Barrett converted with the aid of a deflection.

The second half saw Hamilton more in control of the game and great link-up play with Nadia Crossan gave Barrett the chance to notch her second with a great strike after the Prestwick goalkeeper misjudged a clearance.

Prestwick tried hard for an equaliser but great defensive play from Carys Archibald and Crossan prevented them from getting back into the game.

Midfielder Claire Campbell was Player of the Match.

Hamilton’s Under-11s were also at Prestwick and returned with an emphatic 11-1 win under their belts.

Early goals from Lucy Pollock and Lynsey Carlyle settled Hamilton and good defending by Julia Dunn, Amy Young, Chloe McCormack and keeper Rachel Murphy restricted Prestwick to just a consolation goal.

Pollock grabbed four goals in total, Cara Dixon and Kathleen McGovern scored two, while singles came from Morgan McCafferty, and Mhariad Dixon.

Player of the Match was Lucy Pollock.
