Accies Ladies held at Boroughmuir

Scottish Women’s Premier League: Boroughmuir Thistle 1, Hamilton Accies 1

ANGRY Hamilton Accies Ladies’ manager Kevin Murphy has demanded a reaction from his players ahead of Sunday’s clash against Kilmarnock, after his side were held by strugglers Boroughmuir Thistle.

The hosts were reduced to 10 for the final 15 minutes but Accies couldn’t capitalise in a game that was difficult to watch for Hamilton’s management.

Murphy said afterwards: “We lost our individual battles and got what we deserved. The coaching staff had a meaningful chat in the dressing room after the game and I want to see a reaction in our next match.

“We have players coming back from long-term injury and the increase in competition will hopefully get other players to step up to the mark”.

Hamilton started brightly and were in control from the start, but Boroughmuir nearly took the lead when a cross was whipped over the face of goal but was too far ahead of their striker.

But Accies took the lead in 11 minutes when Katie Reilly’s cross into the box was nodded down by Ashley McDonald for Nicky Grant to head home.

Hamilton tried to grab a second but efforts from Susan Fairlie and Reilly landed wide.

Boroughmuir started to creep back into the game and nearly levelled before the interval, only for Lee Alexander to brilliantly tip a long-range effort over.

Hamilton struck back and Toni Mason broke into the box before cutting the ball back to Fairlie, but her shot was blocked.

Hamilton were made to rue those earlier misses when Boroughmuir equalised two minutes into the second half.

The game slipped out of Hamilton’s control as they lost their grip of the midfield against a physical Thistle team.

Thistle were reduced to 10 in 75 minutes when a shocking challenge saw one of their players shown a straight red card, but Accies couldn’t take advantage of their superiority.

The closest they came to a winner was when a looping shot struck the top of the crossbar.

Hamilton will hope to bounce back when they entertain Kilmarnock at Wishaw Sports Centre on Sunday.

HAMILTON: Alexander, King, Hogg, Lafferty, Emerson, Templeton, Mason, Grant, Reilly, McDonald, Fairlie. Subs: McManus, Fleming, Inglis, Crilly, Fleming.

HAMILTON Accies’ Divisional team ran up an impressive 4-2 win over Paisley Saints Girls despite missing several players.

With both keepers unavailable Louise McIntyre stepped in to play in goal.

Both sides looked nervous in the opening exchanges but Pamela Liddell opened the scoring for Accies.

This sparked Paisley to life and after some good play and Accies playing a dangerous game with their offside line, Saints grabbed a deserved equaliser.

This should have been a wake-up call to Accies but instead Paisley added a second.

Saints looked hungrier and Accies were perhaps fortunate to go in with only a 2-1 deficit.

Following reshuffle at the interval Hamilton looked like an entirely different team and with Liddell and McCann swapping placed Accies began to create more chances.

The visitors bombarded Saints and eventually got their equaliser when Liddell found McLaren to volley home.

Laura Lindsay got Hamilton’s third after a good solo effort, picking the ball up on the 18-yard line, cutting inside and rifling home a shot.

Accies were on top and went close a few times before substitute Hayley McEwan sealed the 4-2 win.

HAMILTON: McIntyre, Park, Smith, Paton, McAnulty, Burns, Lindsay, Grehan, Liddell, McCann, McLaren. Subs: Lyttle, Murphy, McEwan.

Player of the Match: Pamela Liddell.

Under-17 League Cup: Hamilton Accies 7, Glasgow Girls 2

HAMILTON marched into the next round of the League Cup but only after falling behind to an early strike.

Accies then dominated and MacAvoy’s quick free-kick sent Goodwin through to chip over the keeper.

A Goodwin cross forced a Glasgow own goal after good pressure from Neill, before Brannon and Goodwin linked for MacLachlan to bury goal number two.

Hamilton went on to score a few more, with the pick of them coming when sub MacIntyre put in a great cross for O’Neill to scramble home the sixth.

Glasgow pulled one back late in the game but MacPherson rounded off a great day for Accies with a stunning strike.

Accies coach/manager Jim Erwin said: “We needed a response after the Rangers game and I felt that we got it. We made some positive changes and got more from certain individuals, such as McLeery who was superb.

“Brannon, making her first start, had a brilliant second half for such a young talent and she tormented Glasgow.”

HAMILTON: McCarney, McLeery, MacBrearty, Gilchrist, Black, Bulloch, MacAvoy, Neil, Brannon, Goodwin, MacLachlan. Subs: McGuire, Hynde, O’Neill, MacIntyre, MacPherson, Toner, Burns.

Hamilton Under-13 Whites 13, Ayr United 2.

HAMILTON and Ayr both went into this side with depleted squads - United without any subs while Accies gave debuts to under-11 girls Morgan and Mairead.

Chantelle Brown pounced on a defensive error to put Accies ahead, Shauna Flynn scored the second with a shot from 18-yards, before Brown completed a first-half hat-trick for 4-0.

Ayr scored from a rare attack but Hamilton replied from the restart to add another three goals for a 7-1 interval lead.

Brown grabbed her fourth before Morgan and Mairead grabbed a goal each. Emma Malavin scored and Hamilton ran in another three goals before Ayr scored late in the game.

Tass Girls 0, Hamilton Under-13 Reds 17.

HAMILTON’S other under-13s racked up an incredible 17-0 win over Tass.

Olivia Quinn opened the scoring in 12 minutes and got her second three minutes later. In 18 minutes Sam Macmillan got the first of her five goals, and Colette D’Ambrogio and Darcy Molley grabbed two each. Nadia Crossan added another and Nicole Barrett added to her tally with a double. Quinn grabbed another two, before keeper Katie Culton hit a rare goal.
