HAMILTON fell to a 2-1 defeat at Rangers in the first game of the new Scottish Women’s Premier League summer league.
Manager Kevin Murphy felt that Accies conceded too easily and said: “I am disappointed with the result. We gifted Rangers two really soft goals early on and gave ourselves a mountain to climb.”
Accies started brightly and hit the post in the first minute after a great through-ball from Laura Murray released Tasha Anderson.
Rangers then raced into a 2-0 lead, the first coming in seven minutes when Lesley McMaster’s free-kick found unmarked Jayne Sommerville to head back across goal and into the net and three minutes later Lana Clelland capitalised on a defensive error to skip past two challenges before blasting high into the net.
Accies were left reeling by the quickfire one-two and it took them time to work their way back into the match but following a period of pressure a series of free-kicks were won on the edge of the box and eventually Lynsey Hogg blasted one into the bottom corner.
Hamilton went in search of an equaliser in the second half but despite enjoying most of the possession, they didn’t really create a real goal-scoring opportunity.
Disappointed Murphy continued: “We have got to pick ourselves up as we have a hard game against champions Glasgow City on Sunday .”
The match takes place at the Jock Stein Pitch on Sunday, March 21.
HAMILTON: Alexander, Murray, Lafferty, Hogg, King, Mason, Grant, Reilly, McDonald, Crilly, Alexander. Subs: Templeton, Fleming, Emerson, McManus, Inglis.
Hamilton Reserves 2, Glasgow Ladies 1
HAMILTON’S divisional team came out on top 2-1 of a tense match against Glasgow Ladies.
The first half was evenly matched with neither side threatening.
The best of these came when Pamela Liddell was sent through on the Glasgow keeper but could only chip past.
Accies took the lead shortly after the re-start when Liddell again found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but kept her composure to slot home.
The goal seemed to lift Accies but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept them at bay.
Glasgow took advantage of this to level after Hillman saved well and Linsey Park’s goal-line clearance was headed into the back of the net.
Glasgow went in search of a winner but Accies attacked on the break and with less than 10 minutes remaining substitute Jackie McCann scored a fabulous overhead kick.
HAMILTON: Hillman, Park (Docherty, 75), Smith, McLoy, Paton, Murphy (McLaren, 75), Graham, Burns, McAnulty (Grehan, 70), Liddell (McCann, 70), McEwan (Lyttle, 80). Subs (not used): Faxon, Rawlings.
Player of the Match: Michaela Burns.
Hamilton Accies Under-17s 6, Kilmarnock 1
ACCIES bounced back superbly from their opening day defeat to rout Kilmarnock by 6-1.
The League and Cup-holders dominated from the start with captain Amy Bulloch leading by example.
Accies opened the scoring through Nikki McLachlan but Killie immediately hit back but then McLachlan was back at the other end, sliding a superb pass through to Danielle O’Neill to put Accies 2-1 ahead. Under-15s captain Courtney McAvoy then grabbed two quick goals.
Killie didn’t have any time to respond in the second period as an audacious chip by McLachlan put Accies 5-1 ahead before she completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Hamilton travel to Kilmarnock in the Cup on Sunday.
Under-17s captain Amy Bulloch was picked to represent Scotland Under-17s in their recent match against Northern Ireland.
Ayr United 0, Hamilton Under-13 Whites 17
HAMILTON routed Ayr in the second group match of the League Cup.
Chantelle Brown opened the scoring with Brown and Karen Baillie adding another four each, before Helena Montague grabbed the ninth.
Baillie grabbed another two before Brown scored her sixth, Montague netted another and Laura Gallen came off the bench to grab a quick hat-trick.
But the best move of the game came when Sara Clelland raced upfield, played a neat one-two with Gallen and blasted home for the 17-0 scoreline.
HAMILTON’S Under-13 Reds also managed a good scoreline with a 12-0 win against Ayrshire side TASS Girls in a first-round cup tie.
