Accies’s ladies lost 3-1 to Falkirk in the League Cup first round

HAMILTON Accies Women’s Scottish Premier League Reserves’ first match of the season ended in defeat against a strong Falkirk side in the League Cup first round.

Accies got off to a bad start when goalkeeper Linda Gibson injured an ankle and had to be replaced after just two minutes.

The Lanarkshire side reshuffled their pack with Clare Docherty coming on for Gibson and Madeline Hillman stepping in to goal.

Falkirk had the first real chance of the game but were denied after Linsey Park made a goal-line clearance.

With Accies struggling to create any clear-cut chances Falkirk went 1-0 ahead with a long-range effort that Hillman was unlucky not to get a hand to.

Defensive errors cost Accies a second goal shortly before half-time and things went from bad to worse when substitute Docherty had to go off injured.

Despite the two-goal interval deficit Accies were still in the game and were rewarded with a penalty following a Falkirk handball.

Michaela Burns calmly slotted the ball home to make the scoreline 2-1.

Despite working hard and creating a few half-chances, Accies lost another goal late on in the match.
