’Well Killie-d off by late Taouil strike
MOTHERWELL ended their season in disappointing fashion as Kilmarnock ran out winners in a typical end of season tussle.
Kilmarnock could have taken the lead in 16 minutes when Mehdi Taouil cut in from the left but failed to find the unmarked Danny Invincibile.
But in 27 minutes the duo did link up, with Australian Invincibile taking a touch before hammering the ball high past debut keeper Artur Krysiak.
All Motherwell had to show from a dismal first half was a neat head-flick from David Clarkson from a Stevie Hammell corner, but it flashed across goal and past the far post.
Ten minutes after the restart Motherwell could have pulled level but Brian McLean was unlucky to see a glancing header bounce clear off the crossbar.
Minutes later Jim O’Brien’s corner caused havoc in the Killie box, but unmarked Cillian Sheridan could only head wide.
Sheridan was unlucky again when he was sent clear thanks to a neat reverse pass from Stephen Hughes, but as the angle narrowed it allowed Cameron Bell to get down to block.
Motherwell equalised in 80 minutes when Clarkson robbed Tim Clancy on the right before heading for the bye-line and picking out McLean, who side-footed home from eight yards.
However Killie sealed the win in the last minute with an outrageous piece of skill.
David Fernandez’s back-heel flick took out three Motherwell defenders and released Taouil on the right, who twisted his way past a defender before rifling high into the net at the near post.
