Motherwell slash prices for league

MOTHERWELL FC have slashed their ticket prices in a bid to make football more affordable – but Hamilton supporters will still pay full price.

Tickets for category A fixtures against Celtic and Rangers will be reduced to £15 for adults and £10 for children.

Category B games against Hamilton, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs will remain the standard price, but under 12s will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Juvenile season ticket-holders will also be able to bring a friend for free.

Motherwell fans will be able to watch category C fixtures against Dundee United, Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Falkirk and Inverness Caley Thistle in the south stand, and juveniles will be allowed free entry when accompanied by an adult paying just £10.

Visiting fans will be housed in the Phil O’Donnell Stand for these matches and they, along with all other remaining areas of the ground, can expect to pay standard gate prices. However, children will be allowed free entry when accompanied by a paying adult, while juvenile season ticket-holders will be able to bring a friend for free.

As a further reward for Motherwell fans, the club will hold a free draw before every category B and C match, where four current season ticket-holders can win hospitality for themselves and two friends.

The Fir Park club will also set up a committee with fans’ representatives to look at season ticket prices for next season and beyond.

Motherwell chief executive Ian Stillie said: “With this latest initiative we are underlining our commitment to encouraging more youngsters along to games.

“Last season, the best in over a decade for the club, we had a free voucher scheme for school kids, which proved fantastically successful.

“We are hoping to replicate that on a bigger scale and when the full mechanics of free football are revealed, I believe it will prove very popular amongst fans.”

Mr Stillie added: “Football in Scotland has become too pricey, particularly for families. Everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment and we have to, as an industry, react to that.

“Motherwell Football Club has taken the lead on this issue and we would encourage our SPL partners to reciprocate the changes, not only for our fans but their own supporters.”
