Former cup winners raise charity cash

MEMBERS of the first Hamilton team to lift the Scottish Amateur Cup have done their bit for charity.

The players, who made history with Avon Villa back in 1982, held a sportsman’s dinner at Hamilton Railwaymen’s Club on May 2, raising £2102 for the heart and lung transplant unit at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank.

The event was held in memory of their manager, the late Willie Summers, who underwent a heart transplant.

Spokesman Bobby Aird thanked everyone for their donations and Avon Villa send their congratulations to Eddlewood Amateurs, who emulated their Hampden triumph by lifting the same trophy last Sunday.
