Hamilton win Lanarkshire Cup

HAMILTON won a 15-a-side tournament that attracted clubs from across Lanarkshire last Saturday.

The competition for the Lanarkshire Cup was staged at Cambuslang in aid of seriously injured player Ciaran Pryce.

A total of £1000 was raised on the day for the Cambuslang youngster, who was paralysed from the neck down while playing rugby for Cathkin High School last year.

Hamilton won a thrilling final against Cambuslang. They were 12-0 up at half-time but Cambuslang fought back with an unconverted try and missed a glorious opportunity to score a try under the post seconds before the final whistle.

Six teams took part in the pool games. In Pool One, Cambuslang beat Dalziel 15-9 and Waysiders/Drumpellier 36-0, while Dalziel beat Waysiders/Drumpellier 12-0.

In Pool Two, Hamilton were winners, beating East Kilbride 38-0 and Uddingston 29-0. In the other game, East Kilbride beat Uddingston 19-5.

Jimmy Stevenson, Cambuslang president, presented the Lanarkshire Cup to Hamilton and thanked everyone who contributed to an extremely successful competition. The Lanarkshire Cup has not been played for since 2000 but may now become a regular fixture.
