Bellshill keep their Premier spot

BELLSHILL Athletic boss Tam McDonald heaved a sigh of relief when he found out the result of Monday’s Ayrshire derby between Auchinleck and Cumnock.

For a 2-0 win by the ‘Leck — the side Tam captained to league titles and Scottish Cup successes and repeated that feat as manager — meant Bellshill avoided the hazard of playing Kilwinning Rangers in a play-off.

Now, with Bellshill’s Super Premier League status secured, McDonald and the re-vamped management committee can start planning ahead for next season.

Meanwhile two former Bellshill strikers will be in opposition in Sunday’s Citylink Scottish Junior Cup final at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park.

Hamilton-based Paul McGrillen will be in the firing line for Bathgate Thistle, while Ritchie Barr leads the Cumnock strike-force.
