SATURDAY’S point in a six-goal thriller against mid-table Glenafton came too late to save Shotts Bon Accord from crashing through the Super Premier League trapdoor.
And Bellshill, with their programme complete, have been dragged into the play-off zone as teams below them picked up points.
Dejected Shotts assistant Willie Burns said: “That game just about sums up our season. After 15 minutes, we had Tom McLaughlin and Craig McLintock carried off with knee ligament damage and Jamie White was sent off five minutes later.
“We lost the first goal to a dubious penalty but went 3-1 up and were in control of the game, but we gifted the ball for a second, and a third came from a late penalty.
“We played really well and scored some good goals from Colin Allison, John Goodwin and Chris Gardiner.”
Bellshill were comfortably in seventh place on Saturday night but Monday wins for Arthurlie and Auchinleck saw them leapfrog the county club who are now ninth, one slot off the play-off zone.
If Scottish Cup finalists Cumnock win their two remaining games, against Kilsyth on Saturday and Auchinleck on Monday, it could go down to goal difference to see who goes into the play-off.
