LESMAHAGOW are deep in Super League First Division relegation trouble after Monday’s 4-1 hammering at Annbank.
’Gow had given themselves hope on Saturday when double hero Barry Murdoch gave them a 2-1 home win over promotion-chasing Kilbirnie Ladeside — their first in five starts.
Assistant boss Robert Irving groaned: “We didn’t play too badly and the score doesn’t give a true reflection on the play — we’re just giving away bad goals.
“We’ve told the players we’re in a mini league of our own at the bottom of the table and after Monday’s results it’s a case of one out of four to beat the drop.”
Murdoch, the teenager signed as a sweeper from Royal Albert, scored a late consolation goal from the spot in Monday’s defeat.
On Saturday’s win, Irving said: “We did really well for long spells but we made life difficult for ourselves by creating good chances and missing them.
“Barry is always a threat. He may be unorthodox and doesn’t have a lot of pace but he works hard and deserved his two goals.
“Barry probably has one of the best goals-per-game ratio — not bad for a player we signed as a sweeper!”
On Wednesday, ’Gow twice came back to level the scores by half-time but lost three goals in a 20-minute spell in the second half and crashed 5-2 at home to Annbank.
Phil Creaney and captain Kevin McDade were the players on target.
