SIMON MENSING says Hamilton owe it to themselves and their fans to dump Morton in Greenock on Saturday.
The midfielder is still hurting from last week’s 2-1 home defeat against Allan Moore’s men, and said boss Billy Reid was right to give them a roasting after it.
The gaffer didn’t miss and hit the wall last week and Accies responded well with good performances against Falkirk and Raith Rovers, and they were desperately unlucky to lose to Steven Pressley’s Bairns on Saturday.
Mensing, who bagged the winner in a 2-1 win over Raith on Tuesday, said Reid was right, but added the players didn’t need to be told where they had gone wrong.
He said: “Our performance against Morton wasn’t good enough, I think that was clear to see.
“The gaffer had words with us and I think all the boys knew that it was coming.
“We upped our game against Falkirk and how we didn’t get anything out of that game was very disappointing, but we took the positives out of that, brought that into the game against Raith, and got a much-needed win.
“We’ve just got to pick up the momentum and it was a big three points, so we’ve got to try and take that into the game on Saturday.
“We owe it to ourselves and certainly our fans to put on a good performance against Morton because, from start to finish last week, it simply wasn’t good enough and that’s a record we want to put right.”
Mensing concedes that Hamilton didn’t play as well as they would have liked against Raith on Tuesday, but was pleased as he and Martin Canning grabbed the all-important goals.
He said: “It was quite a scrappy game compared to how we played against Falkirk, so fair play to Raith – they had a game-plan and stopped us from playing.
“It was massive to get the three points and it was good that we dug in at times, especially after they pulled a goal back.
“It was a good result.
“We were really pleased with the win and as long as we’re getting the ball in the back of the net it doesn’t matter who scores – but obviously it’s a ‘Brucie Bonus’ that myself and Canzo popped up with the two goals!”
