Hamilton Accies 1 Dundee 6 match review

IRN-BRU FIRST DIVISION:

HAMILTON ACCIES 1

DUNDEE 6

HAMILTON slumped to their heaviest-ever defeat at New Douglas Park as Dundee ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.

Accies offered little resistance in a poor first-half showing, and although Dougie Imrie scored a scorching late goal, it was little more than consolation.

A large section of the home support made their frustration known, with some chanting for boss Billy Reid to go, while several others voted with their feet long before the final whistle.

Accies made two changes from the side which lost at Raith last Saturday, with Martin Canning and Mikey Devlin replacing Stephen Hendrie and Grant Gillespie, while Dundee were unsurprisingly unchanged from their win over Falkirk.

After a slow start from both sides Dundee began to get on top and opened the scoring in 21 minutes. Stephen O'Donnell's simple looking free kick from the left wing was dropped by David Hutton, leaving Steven Milne with a simple tap-in at the back post.

The visitors doubled their lead in 37 minutes when Rab Douglas' long kick-out was collected by Milne 22 yards out, and he delicately lobbed the ball over stranded Hutton, who had come off his line to narrow the angle.

And Dundee put the result beyond doubt in 40 minutes when Gavin Rae set up O'Donnell to send an unstoppable shot into the top right corner.

The Dark Blues could have added a fourth before the interval but Nicky Riley's curling effort was well taken at the bottom left corner.

Accies offered very little in resistance, with the best chance falling to Imrie after the winger latched onto a Matt Paterson cutback on the left but found his path to goal well blocked.

Dundee scored their fourth in 49 minutes when Riley's cross from the left was cleared by Simon Mensing only as far as Jake Hyde, and his low effort was deftly flicked past Hutton by Milne to complete his hat-trick.

The visitors had another chance 60 seconds later when Hyde set up Ryan Conroy on the edge of the box but his low effort was well taken by Hutton.

Milne then turned provider in 71 minutes as his pass was perfect for Riley to finish well past exposed Hutton.

Dundee nearly added to their tally but Riley saw a chip crash over the bar and Milne sent an overhead kick just past when a corner from the left was poorly cleared.

But the Accies defence failed to deal with a shot by sub Calum Elliot and Rae latched onto the loose ball before smashing it into the top left corner.

Imrie pulled a goal back in the closing stages with a shot into the top right corner for his third of the season but it was too little, too late.
