On Loan Accies star Spence hopes to get in more goals

GREIG Spence got off the mark in his first start for Hamilton and hopes to rattle in a few more goals in a bid to prove himself.

The 19-year-old says his loan move from Celtic until January gives him the freedom to express himself with the New Douglas Park side.

And he settled well into that role against Morton in Sunday’s 2-1 Ramsdens Cup quarter-final win.

Spence caused the Greenock side no end of problems, but her admitted after the match that he was not entirely satisfied with his form at the moment.

He said: “I’m over the moon to get my first goal and overall it was a decent performance from the team.

“I’m glad I played all right and got the goal, I think we were unfortunate to go 1-0 down but we managed to drive back and we got the result

“I’m off the mark now and I hope to score more goals – that’s what I play for as part of the team.

“I want to be a wee bit fitter because my fitness is a bit down just now, but I’m sure this will come with more games and hopefully I can bang in a few more goals.

“I thought Matt Paterson and myself combined well. We had never played together and had only trained together once or twice, so it was always going to be difficult, but I thought we did well.

“Matt has a bit of experience behind him, so he was speaking to me the whole way through and it was good.”

Greig is happy with the move from Parkhead to New Douglas Park, and relishes the challenge ahead.

He said: “The move here was in the background all summer and I just left it to my agent and Celtic. There were a few complications that meant it didn’t happen straight away so I just had to wait and see what happened, and two weeks ago it managed to come through.

“It’s a good opportunity for first-team football in the First Division and it’s a great level.

“Hamilton are also a great team to come to, because you get to just go out and express yourself and I think that’s what I need to do at this stage in my career.”
