JAMES Chambers this week told his Hamilton team-mates that they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves as they head into Monday’s do-or-die clash at St Mirren.
The Dublin-born midfielder was bitterly disappointed to only take a point from last Monday’s game against Aberdeen at New Douglas Park and knows Hamilton are up against it in their fight for SPL survival.
The 24-year-old said: “We worked hard to get our goal and had a couple of chances as well, but to throw it away by conceding a goal like that is disappointing, especially after they missed a penalty.
“It just doesn’t seem to be going in for us; Dougie Imrie had a shot off the crossbar and nine times out of 10 it hits the bar and goes in.
“It’s really disappointing and a kick in the teeth, but we can’t feel too sorry for ourselves. We’ve got to pick ourselves up off the floor and go again.
“With St Mirren drawing on Sunday we had to win on Monday but we didn’t, so we need to win on Monday– it’s as simple as that.
“We need to focus on the next game, play well and hopefully pick up the three points – that’s all we can do, and then we’ll cross that bridge (relegation) when we come to it.
“If we beat St Mirren on Monday it gives us hope – we had a better chance a few weeks ago and didn’t take it. We knew we had to go there and win, and we’re in the same boat now.
“It’s going to be a tough ask, but we just need to keep going.”
