Suspended hero James Wesolowski is confident of result at Ibrox

Hamilton Accies 1 - 0 St Johnstone

JAMES Wesolowski is gutted that he misses Saturday’s trip to face Rangers at Ibrox but is confident his Hamilton Accies team-mates can get a result.

Suspended Weso says Hamilton are full of confidence after a run of six games unbeaten has seen the New Douglas Park open up an 11-point gap over bottom side Falkirk.

The on-loan Australian midfield ace, who scored in Hamilton’s 1-0 win over St Johnstone on Saturday, said: “This month has been brilliant because we have gone six games unbeaten and I think we’ve strung together some great results. Even times when we’ve drawn we could have picked up the win.

“We’re looking forward to every game, even against Rangers we’re going out there with a lot of confidence and we’re looking to pick up something from Ibrox.

“When we played Rangers in the Scottish Cup games I missed out on them through injury too so it’s going to be strange not being able to play in this one.

“But I think the boys are more than capable of going out there and applying the pressure to get the win anyway.

“The way we’re playing at the moment we’re going into every game knowing that we can get something and I think that’s the best way to go at the moment.”

Weso is very confident that Hamilton can beat the drop, but says they won’t get complacent.

He said: “At the end of the day the most important thing is keeping Hamilton up in the SPL for next season and that’s what we’re looking to do.

“We’ve got to look at the teams above us, I don’t think it’s the case of looking behind us at Falkirk and the other teams and we’ve got to be positive – hopefully we can catch Aberdeen and St Johnstone.

“Eleven points is a big gap between us and Falkirk and that means they have to win four games without us picking up any points.

“However, we have still got to take the fixtures game by game, keep doing things right, like we have over the past month, and if we can do that then I think we’ll pick up a few more results.”

Weso (22), on loan from Leicester City, was delighted with Saturday’s win and felt it was fully merited.

He said: “That’s my second goal of the season and they were both winners, so I’m delighted.

“I think Saturday’s goal meant more than the one against Aberdeen because it was against a team we’re trying to catch and we showed a lot of fight.

“Everyone was outstanding on Saturday, especially in the second half when it wasn’t the prettiest game of football, but we stood strong and held out for the win, which was the most important thing.”

He added: “The goal felt nice but I’ve got to give Simon Mensing a lot of credit because he saw my run and played me in beautifully.

“Scoring goals is something I’ve wanted to add to my game for a long time and I’m getting a few more chances now at Accies.

“I was very happy when I scored, as the fans could see from the celebrations, and I am sure it was more than deserved for the team.

“I am now a lot more confident in front of goal and hopefully I can add to my tally before the end of the season.”
