New Accies signing Dougie Imrie looking forward to game

DOUGIE Imrie checked in at New Douglas Park on Tuesday morning and admitted he can’t wait to start his Accies career.

A whirlwind deadline day move saw Hamilton boss Billy Reid finally get his man on an 18-month deal, having negotiated a five-figure sum with First Division Inverness for the winger’s services.

Imrie (26) could be pitched into his first Lanarkshire derby against Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday, and is relishing the prospect.

Imrie said: “Hamilton have tried to get me a few times so it was good to know that Billy rated me as a player and wanted to get me on board.

“It was an easy decision in the end once I got to speak to him and I’m happy to be here. Hopefully I can do well for the club.

“I had a few offers but I wanted to come to Hamilton and it means that I’m back home in Lanark as well, so I’m delighted with that.

“I want to do well, get as many goals as I can, and hopefully push the team as far up the table as we can go.”

Dougie faces a tough opening period with two derbies against Motherwell either side of a trip to face Dundee United at Tannadice – and can’t wait.

He said: “It’s not exactly a quiet start for me, it’s a tough game to go into on Saturday, but we beat Motherwell in the cup a few weeks ago at Inverness and I’m sure Hamilton can do the same if we go in there with a good attitude.

“Hopefully we can get something from the game.”

Imrie’s challenge is to help Accies avoid the drop and he’s confident of achieving that aim.

He said: “I’m confident that we can stay up. There’s a good squad of boys here and I’m sure in the next few weeks we can pick up points.

“We’ve got six games in the next month, these are games you want to be involved in, and it will be tough but I’m sure we’ll cope.”
