Hamilton Rugby Club hope to get a game on this weekend following harsh winter weather

WINTER weather again wiped out the rugby card across Lanarkshire but Hamilton Rugby Club have used it to their advantage.

Not only has the enforced winter break enabled them to get injured players back into the fold but training has been stepped up ahead of this weekend’s scheduled Premier 3 clash at home to Haddington.

Bulls coach Dale Lyon is looking forward to finally getting back to action and believes his players are well prepared for the task ahead.

He said: “With great help from Esporta and the University of the West of Scotland in Hamilton, we have been able to hone ball skills and general handling, whilst the improvements to our own power gym within the clubhouse have meant the Bulls have beefed up, and not just on Christmas pudding!

“The enforced break has meant that those players who were a bit battle weary were able to get back to full fitness and are now champing at the bit to get back out into action at Laigh Bent.

“The morale of the 1st XV has been boosted during the enforced lay-off by player-focused sessions, where captain Richard Maxton and his vice-captain David McGrath have both been instrumental in leading the sessions.

“Let’s hope for a break in this weather to see if Hamilton can resume entertaining the faithful support this weekend.”
