BIGGAR moved up into third spot in the Scottish Hydro Premier 3 table following a comfortable win at relegation-threatened Haddington.
The Neilson Park side were expected to go at their visitors in a bid to rescue points as they desperately attempt to avoid the drop, and it was to Biggar’s credit that they prevented a determined team from getting over the line.
Biggar’s young squad, featuring Iain Renwick, Conor Lavery, Josh Harvey, Matt Hamilton and Andrew Goodall, started well and a move straight from the training ground allowed Scott Cameron to take a ball in midfield from scrum-half Sam Muir before barging over.
Chris McKeand was off-target with the conversion attempt, but made amends in the second half with two conversions and a couple of penalties.
Scrum-half Muir was next to score, his try coming after a period of sustained pressure culminating in a five-metre attacking scrum, with Muir breaking blind to squeeze in at the corner.
Fraley Hopa continued his exploits on the touchline, plundering the ball from his opponents’ put-ins, while Jason Kelly’s turnovers were crucial as Biggar maintained the pressure on their struggling hosts.
The clinching score fell to Cameron again, this time after a neat break from Renwick.
