Rugby: Hamilton 2nds kitted out thanks to sponsorship

HAMILTON Rugby Club’s 2nd XV were given a major boost this week when they were kitted out in new Puma strips thanks to sponsorship from Macgregor Flooring.

The link-up came about because the firm’s managing director Hamish Macgregor is a past president at the club.

Mr Macgregor is still actively involved in fundraising for the Laigh Bent club but his UK-wide business interests, plus his work as president of the National Benefit Contractors Council and a director of the Contract Flooring Association, take up much of his time.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Mr Macgregor said: “Much of the time the fundraising and sponsorship attention at the club is focused on the first XV and while this is essential if Hamilton are to continue at the high level of rugby they have been playing in recent seasons, the second XV are also competing against some of the top clubs in Scotland.

“Macgregor Flooring has provided support to the club over the years but as this is our 25th anniversary and we wanted to do something different.

“Sponsorship of individual teams is actively being sought by the club so the fact that the second XV didn’t have a sponsor and that Crawford Macgregor, one of our contract managers, is a regular in the team, made it an obvious choice for our support.”

The side is relatively young with an average age of just 20, and this year are competing against Melrose, Hawick and Currie, amongst others.

Mr Macgregor added: “It is important that the young players understand that the effort they are putting in is recognised and we at Macgregor Flooring have been able to do this by providing playing kit developed specifically for the club by Puma.”
