Hamilton Under-16s’ emphatic win over Dumfries puts them through to a National Cup semi-final against Clackmannanshire on Sunday.

HAMILTON Rugby Club’s Under-16 squad cruised into the SRU National Bowl semi-finals with an emphatic win over Dumfries last Sunday.

The 67-15 win was achieved with a total of 11 tries, including a hat-trick from Calder Dallas and six conversions from the boot of Andrew Wilson.

Hamilton overcame a stuffy, physical and very committed Dumfries side at Laigh Bent, in front of a vocal home support.

Patient play in the opening stages created a gap for Matt Potter to open the scoring, and Jamie Paterson crashed over shortly afterwards.

Dumfries responded with a penalty, but Hamilton racked up two more tries from Potter and Ross Jamieson, both of which were converted by Wilson.

The visitors grabbed a converted try, but Hamilton grabbed another score with Calder Dallas crossing in the corner for 29-10 at half-time.

Hamilton sought to put the result beyond doubt early in the second half and Scott Murray and Ben Montgomery grabbed tries, which were converted by Wilson for 43-10.

Dumfries fought back with an unconverted try but Hamilton were well in control, which saw Dallas complete his hat-trick before Marc Rodgers grabbed a brace, with Wilson converting two of the tries for the final 67-15 result.

The semi-final against Clackmannanshire is to be played at Laigh Bent on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 2pm and entry is free.

Hamilton’s under-16 players Scott Murray and Calder Dallas have been selected as part of the Glasgow Inter-District Championship squad.

They will all play in a series of six games against the Scottish Exiles, Caledonian, Edinburgh and the Borders, culminating in games against Lancashire and Yorkshire.

They join three others in the IDC programme, with Joe McQuade (u-17), Ross Inglis and Chris Stannage (both u-18) all also selected.
